Young-adult science-fiction author
Humanity was asked to send its best.
Did it understand the assignment?
The Secret of CROWN is a dystopian science-fiction thriller about extraordinary young people, alien technology, scientific discovery, and the freedom to decide who you are.
No fleets. No claws. No demands. The visitors are not monsters and they are not saviours — and nothing in ninety-three years of measurement has established that human motives apply to them at all.
The book

Humanity was asked to send its best. Did it understand the assignment?
Twenty years after nuclear war shattered civilization, an alien probe appeared above Earth. It brought impossible materials, miraculous medicine, and knowledge capable of rebuilding a broken world. Then, for generations, it remained silent. Until now.
Meet Maya
Maya Marroquin is a sixteen-year-old author whose interests span biology, mathematics, aviation, literature, medicine, and the unanswered questions beyond our world.
She began writing The Secret of CROWN at fourteen. She did not announce that she was writing a novel or begin with a detailed publishing plan. She simply started writing — and continued until she had created a substantial manuscript, an extensive history, a cast of characters, and enough ideas for several interconnected stories.

Open the portalScience inside the story
Every science page in the Evidence Archive says plainly where the evidence ends and the invention begins.
Established Science
DNA is not a blueprint of a finished person. It is a set of instructions for making proteins, read at different times, in different cells, under different conditions.
Plausible Extrapolation
Artificial chromosomes are real, they work in cells, and they are nowhere near what the Kings program claims to have built.
Established Science
We keep drawing intelligence as a ladder with humans at the top. The evidence looks much more like a bush.
Established Science
Silence is a measurement of our searching, not of the sky. Two centuries of listening covered a startlingly small slice of an enormous search space.
For readers and young writers
Maya wrote this novel at fourteen and fifteen, which mostly means she wrote a lot of pages that did not work first. This section is for young readers, young writers, teachers, and the parents trying to help without taking the story over.

Six records from the CROWN provisional archive are now readable in the portal, including two that do not agree with each other.
Genetics, intelligence, alien detection, and one honest admission that nobody can explain how the Servator stays up.
